Inaugural Meeting of the Council of Ministers
June 5, 2026#Mozambique Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Honourable Fernando Rafael, says efforts being undertaken by hashtag#South Africa, hashtag#Mozambique and hashtag#Eswatini on transboundary water management, demonstrate their commitment to the sustainable development agenda through regional cooperation.
Speaking during the inaugural Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Incomati and Maputo Watercourse Commission – INMACOM held on June 5, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Hon. Rafael said the results of that cooperation through INMACOM are already visible.
He said this collaboration will translate into an ever-increasing dynamic in the coordination of actions and the sharing of hydrological information, the mobilization of funding for the execution of joint projects and the timely sharing of information.
One of the projects that the three countries are already collaborating on is the UNDP-GEF Project: “Strengthening Integrated Transboundary Management of the Incomati and Maputo River Basins which is funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNDP, with the execution by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA).
Support for the implementation of the project is being provided through INMACOM, an organisation formed by the three governments to promote cooperation and ensure coordinated development, and the management and sustainable use of the water resource.
