Workshop on Biological Invasions and Fisheries – Kruger National Park, Skukuza
INMACOM in collaboration with stakeholders convened in Skukuza, Kruger National Park for a workshop on Biological Invasions and Fisheries, under the theme: “Barriers to management, training needs, equipment requirements, research questions and capacity gaps.”

The main objective of the workshop was to: Assess knowledge and concerns about the impacts of biological invasions on fisheries and human wellbeing; Identify stakeholder priorities and capacity for management responses and Explore mechanisms and legislation to address these impacts.

Participants included: The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment; University of Leeds; South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity The National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF); Limpopo Watercourse Commission (LIMCOM) . This collaborative effort highlights the importance of knowledge-sharing, capacity building, and coordinated governance in addressing invasive species and safeguarding fisheries for both ecosystems and communities.
