The country assumes the presidency of the commission for the Incomati and Maputo river basins

Mozambique today assumed the rotating presidency of the Incomáti and Maputo River Basin Commission (INMACOM), reaffirming its commitment to the sustainable and equitable management of shared water resources, as well as to strengthening regional cooperation to address the challenges arising from climate change.

Speaking during the First Meeting of the INMACOM Council of Ministers, the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Fernando Rafael, highlighted the strategic importance of the Commission in promoting the sustainable use of water from the Incomáti and Maputo river basins, emphasizing that cooperation between member states has contributed to improving the quality of life of the populations and boosting the economic development of the region.

In his speech, the official thanked the Government of South Africa for organizing the meeting and for the work carried out during his tenure as president of the Commission, since its creation in 2021.
