INMACOM convened a consultation meeting with key stakeholders

On May 19, 2026 INMACOM convened a consultation meeting with key stakeholders to strengthen institutional linkages and explore opportunities for coordinated implementation. The discussions focused on deepening collaboration with the Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area (TFCA), initiating processes to formalize institutional cooperation, and aligning efforts in transboundary water resource management and biodiversity conservation. The meeting also provided a platform to identify opportunities for joint planning and coordinated implementation, while promoting a shared understanding of the source‑to‑sea management framework and its application within the basin.

The expected outcomes include enhanced institutional understanding of mandates and priorities, agreement on a roadmap for a joint INMACOM–TFCA work plan, and the development of an initial cooperation framework covering ecosystem restoration, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and water governance. Stakeholders will also work towards consensus on formalisation mechanisms, including the development of a Responsible Party Agreement, while reinforcing multi‑sectoral engagement across water, environment, and conservation sectors.

Participants included representatives from the INMACOM Secretariat, National Focal Points from Eswatini, Mozambique, and South Africa, the Lubombo TFCA, and government ministries responsible for water, environment, and conservation.

Together, we are shaping a future of stronger collaboration and sustainable transboundary resource management.
