The Incomati and Maputo Watercourse Commission has appointed Ms. Sindi Mthimkhulu as its first Executive Secretary. Ms. Mthimkhulu was appointed following a rigorous recruitment exercise that eventually delivered the Commissions’ first substantive head. As a fast-growing RBO, the new ES has been mandated to advance the Commissions’ mandate, which is ensuring the equitable and sustainable use and management of the shared water resources of the Incomati and Maputo Basins. INMACOM adopted a five-year strategic plan that outlines five strategic objectives including institutional strengthening, coordinated data dissemination, financial stability, stakeholder engagement and engaging in further technical programs. The Executive Secretary will be guiding the implementation of activities under these broad objectives and continuing to strategically position INMACOM for long term impact and sustainability.
Ms. Mthimkhulu is an accomplished professional with two decades experience in the sector. She is an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) practitioner who served as the founding Chief Executive Officer for the Government of Eswatini’s Joint River Basin Project Board. Prior to her appointment as INMACOM ES, she served in INMACOM’s Technical Task Team through her previous employer. She is a WaterNet alumni and has been at the forefront of numerous initiatives advancing improved water resources management. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for the inclusion of youth and marginalized groups in the water sector. Her efforts have borne fruit, with a number of highly successful interventions that resulted in stakeholder engagement with improved representation.
